Forrest Gossett -- Candidate Profile -- Committed to Open Government

Wentzville's municipal election is April 8th -- not too far away.  The New Wentzvillian wants you to be as informed as possible.  We will post candidate profiles for all of those candidates who provide a write up to the New Wentzvillian. We will not alter what the candidate provides. Here is candidate Forest Gossett's profile for Wentzville's Ward 1.

Re-election as Wentzville Ward 1 Alderman

Wentzville is a great place to live. We are blessed with a good economic recovery, a housing market that is gaining momentum, great service from city employees and a family and business friendly environment. With the strong support of a terrific wife, Laurie, I have served the residents of Ward 1 since April 2012 and helped produce positive results for our city. I am asking Ward 1 residents for a second term.

Reason for Seeking Re-Election:
As a city, we need to continue the policies that have made city hall more approachable and responsive over the last two years. I have delivered on promises: open government, tight ethics laws, reducing property taxes, worked against a property tax rate hike when home values dropped, focused on parks, and accountability of tax dollars. I am available to our residents.

What are your three priorities if elected?

1. Continue improving services to our residents and business owners – and future residents and business owners - which helps grow our economy. I remain committed to open government.

2. Push to further reduce the city's portion of property taxes, which we reduced for tax year 2012, and blocked efforts to increase property tax rates in 2013 to compensate for a reduction in the city's assessed property values.

3. We've made significant progress on Highway 61 safety.  We will continue working with MoDOT and St. Charles County to improve Highway Z and Highway N. We need to continue repairing city streets, which had been neglected for several years.

What brief comment would you like the community to know about you?
I am a husband, father and grandfather. I have solid business experience, which I have used to guide my decision-making for the residents of Ward 1. I have earned an MBA from Norwich University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from American University in Washington, D.C. My experience includes serving on (and chairing) a number of nonprofit boards, service on the boards of directors of four different Chambers of Commerce and serving various enlisted and officer assignments in the U.S. Army, Army Reserve and the Army National Guard. I am active in children's ministry at Calvary West Church.

  1. This guy needs to go. He drones on and on and seldom has a point. He adds very little to meeting but takes up an inordinate amount of time. The city needs leaders not someone who just likes the sound of their own voice.

  2. This guy likes to side with the developers, not the residents. He is a puppet of developers and Bill Luekenhaus and Rick Stokes who could care less about the residents. They are only worried about lining their own pockets.....
