The “Buffalo Wild Wings incident” has been a topic of interest for a while in the City of Wentzville. The New Wentzvillian posted an article months ago seeking more information.
Until the past couple of days, the New Wentzvillian received only soft information. However, we recently obtained versions of events from both Alderman Stokes and the Buffalo Wild Wings server.
The loose outline of events has always been that, while on a visit to Buffalo Wild Wings, Alderman Stokes was belligerent, impolite, intoxicated, nearly got into a fight, almost hit someone with his car, and then talked the police into letting him drive home from the parking lot without issue
Alderman Rick Stokes |
Stokes says this isn’t true and that he had some food, a drink, but then a ruffian of sorts confronted him in the parking lot for no reason.
The server says that on the night in question, some of Wentzville's aldermen came in to their“place of employment,” Buffalo Wild Wings.“One of them was Mr. Stokes who ordered a double shot of Jack Daniels with Sprite turned to me and said, ‘Could you maybe make this drink right?’”
The server says they then asked Mr. Stokes “what was wrong with” his drink so that it could be corrected. Allegedly, he replied with an “annoyed tone, ‘Well, I asked for a double shot of Jack with Sprite so could you put the Jack in with some sprite?’ and winked” at the server.
Stokes says that “we were eating, so, it wasn’t like a drink fest; we were there, we ate and ah ya know, we had a cocktail and a way we go.”
The server said it seemed that the entire “evening consisted of the
aldermen making it seem like I was a huge inconvenience to them.”
Stokes says that is “personal opinion; I can say anyone’s rude and obnoxious, that’s a personal opinion.”
Once the visit came to a close, Alderman“Stokes came out of the bathroom and walked outside. I watched as another one of my customers walked outside right after Mr. Stokes,” says the server.
The server “had a bad feeling and also realized at that time that Mr. Stokes was going to be driving and then thought back on the three drinks I served him. All three were double shots of Jack Daniels with Sprite.”
The server was very uncomfortable with how much Mr. Stokes had imbibed and so went to the front doors of the building to check on things. The server noted a seemingly civil conversation between two men in the parking lot.
“I turned around for maybe a total of three seconds to see if my customer’s wife was coming and when I turned back around to face outside, Mr. Stokes began to pull out of his parking spot while the other customer was still standing there and got extremely close to the customer.”
The server says “I did not witness the vehicle actually hitting the man because I immediately turned around and called for his wife.”
Stokes says that the other patron was a younger man who threatened Strokes with physical harm, so Stokes was forced to call the police from the parking lot. “When the police arrived, they began to question both of the men,” says the server.
The server went outside and asked to speak to one of the officers when they were finished. When the officer came inside, the server told him “that my only concern was that everyone arrived to wherever they were going safely. I also explained to the officer how much Mr. Stokes had drank and that I felt that they should check to make sure that he was okay to drive. I told the male officer this before Mr. Stokes had left.”
The server goes on to say that “my biggest problem with this entire situation is that, to my knowledge, the officers did not check Mr. Stokes in any way to make sure he was okay to drive.”
Whereas Stokes says that he left a board meeting at approximately: “10:15 I was in a Board of Alderman Meeting and the time of my call to the police is about 11:15.” Stokes intimates that this time frame means that the server’s allegations about drinks simply do not add up.
The Wild-Wings employee adds that Stokes “did not appear intoxicated but I also know, because of my job as a server, that a person can appear to be sober while being well over the legal limit to drive.”
Lastly, the server says that Alderman Stokes was especially disrespectful and wants someone to know how some aldermen act and “that there are people out there that feel disrespected.”
As a final quote, Stokes says that “I wish that the entire police report were open and everyone could see for themselves what took place.”
Sounds like some made up a story about Rick Stokes and is trying to smear or sling mud at him just about the time of the election and now I definately won't vote for Ms Wright. I don't care for that kind of politics.
ReplyDeleteSounds like stokes did not deny one single aspect of the story . So glad to see he was contacted. Nearly ANY opposition gets my vote. If stokes comes even close to winning -- shame shame on wentzville . HBA, leutkenhaus and hatin on the small wo/man HAS to get out of our community. Thank God for guccione and his popularity that scares the BeJesus out of his opposition. A Nicer more capable involved leader you've never met
DeleteThis is a Nick self post. Bad grammar. Watch some old videos.
DeleteSo he wasn't charged. Non issue then. Total smear attempt. Site is bias. Makes me want to vote for him now.
DeleteMY VOTE IS FOR GOSSETT AND STOKES. This site is part of the smear campaign against them. I agree with someones post the other day. Why not dig into hussey getting fired in Dardenne? Why not contact Jeff City about the Code of Ethics violations by Wright? Why or Why is our Mayor and Spencer out knocking on doors for Wright and Hussey? Shouldn't they be doing something for the city and our community. Oh yeah, Nick wants his people on the board because he hates Stokes and Gossett. They make him look stupid in the meetings. This side is pathetic. What qualifies Wright and Hussey to serve me as a citizen? Work on that.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you. I'm done with this mud sling campaign. Makes me sick.
DeleteWay to discredit this site. Why post this B.S before elections? You can say to make voters aware. Give me a break. Look in the mirror. I too am like the first poster. I am going to push even harder for Stokes and Gossett because of this post alone. Why not inform me of all the candidates credentials? Unless the two trying to run do not have any. Give me facts to make my opinion on. Not Garbage like this.
ReplyDeletePush all you want; the polls are in; Stokes and Gossett lost. Kudos to the NW -- I've never seen its competitor contact one single candidate for an interview about a story so as to get both sides. Thank you New Wentzvillian (NW) for really covering wentzvilles local politics. I've read a lot of your posts and they are all well done
ReplyDeleteThis is politics!!! This story from a year ago. Pathetic. I have no ties to anyone here, but I do stand up for what is right. Why don't you post resumes not garbage from a year and half ago. Did you mention the server knew the mayor? Interesting. Mayor hates stokes, knows server. Put something up here to give you some credibility. Polls in. Just keep showing your true bias side.
ReplyDeleteSaying you have no ties MEANS exactly the OPPOSITE
ReplyDeleteI don't. I've only been to city meetings and watched videos from the city website. Never met any of these people. I may vote for hussey, I don't know. I just haven't seen a resume on him. I know he was fired from dardenne. I see this story on stokes. Give me substance. Your loosing me. Please help educate us on credentials. Who runs this site anyway?
DeleteThis site is equivalent to the national enquirer. Show substance please that will inform voters on what the candidates can do for me and the city.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I can see this site has a write up on every candidate - Gossett, hussey, etc. Scroll down a couple weeks
ReplyDeleteOk. Didn't see that. I will. Thank you. Why not put at the top so it's easier to find for people? I just turned off by what appears to be a smear post. I'm to old for this technology. Hahhah
DeleteHappy that The New Wentzvillian leaves up ALL posts and the other one that the old crazy man run; deletes anything that he disagree with his opinion. Its time for regular people to represent our city. Stokes you dont run this town, the people do...get ready for some humble pie.
ReplyDeletePlease read the police report wanna be judge. The drunk guy was convicted. He confronted Rick. What about your dui? Since you and the mayor want to smear. Porn mayor and drunk attorney nice flyer I got today. Citizens will turn on this type of campaigning.
ReplyDeleteI think the judge (assuming that I know which judge you are talking about) took his own set of kicks in the chompers from the current Judge Martin's UPSTANDING campaign team. Grow, up or don't read about or have anything to do with politics. Stokes could have provided the police report to the media if he so chose -- any party in a report can have a copy. There were no convictions or charges of any kind. Oh, and the "judge" you are trying to get the ire of -- was found innocent in less than 10 minutes by 12 jurors in, presumably, your home county.
DeleteRefused Breathalyzer. Guilty to me. Why sling mud with this site at innocent people in the court of law then? Hypocrite. You, spencer, wright, hussey and Nick enjoy your evening Tuesday night. I don't see Gossett or Stokes throwing mud. They are running on merit and what they have done for our city. What does Hussey and Wright plan to do? I'm sure Hussey and Wright are good people. I do not know them personally, nor would I mud sling at them. They seem very honest and real. Nobody can answer what they bring to the table. I am all ears....
DeleteSigh....I was never convicted. In no way, shape, or form is Stokes a victim in the incident that I was a part of. Stokes was there for less than an hour apparently. The bill showed 3 double jacks and soda. I was in the restroom and a gentleman (that I now know is Rick Stokes) was next to me, used the facilities and then walked out. When I was was done (after washing my hands) I went out to my car to grab something. I saw the gentleman outside and (I will admit) with a smart alec voice said "Next time you use the restroom please wash your hands" Then headed to my car. Nothing more needed to happen. Had I known this would have turned into this I would have just kept my mouth shut. Stokes was pretty upset that I spoke up I guess, so he mouthed off as he was getting into his car. I walked over and asked him to please repeat what he said, in no way threatening. He pulled out and hit me with his car, not hard, barley hit me, but still hit me with his mirror. He continued to raise his voice and said "do you know who I am, I have friends in the police" I said "great so do I, call them" (which I don't lol) I then laughed at how silly this had become and went back inside. Did I have some drinks, sure, but I was there a lot less time than Mr. Stokes was. Not long after a couple of police officers and a detective (I believe) came in and asked me to come outside. After a little bit of time, I saw Mr. Stokes drive off. The police came over and wrote me a ticket for disturbing the peace or something like that. I asked to press charges on Mr. Stokes for assault. (He hit me with a car, not hard, and was yelling at me) The police told me I could do that on my own time and they had no interest in doing so. After receiving the ticket, I told my friends I was going to walk home, handed my keys over and headed out in the rain.
ReplyDeleteWas this a big deal? Probably not (Except for the driving home after that amount of alcohol, and I think its kinda nasty to not wash your hands) . If things were to play over again what would I change? I would have wanted both of us to take a breathalizer test. The waitress had told the officers what he had drank and myself (though I didn't drive). I am a bit lost on why neither of us were checked. What else would have I have changed. Kept my mouth shut and used a lot of sanitizer after touching the door after him. When I went to court, after the city spent a lot of my tax dollars to "investigate", they informed me that the charges were dropped. I really had no intentions of this even being talked about anymore. When I see that people are saying false statements...that bothers me. So does an authority figure using their power to stay out of trouble. That's just bad business. I am a bit upset I didnt speak up to a news station or something. I was raised to stand up to bullies. I guess late is better than never.....If my alderman is a bully, I don't want him in office. I will not be voting for him. If his actions that rainy night 2 years ago or so are any indication of his politics, I hope he doesnt stay in office.
Not even close to the real story. Nice placement Carter and Guccione. Stop the mudslinging. Its pathetic. Like your politics
DeleteI see a lot of defense from the opposition regarding other people the citizens should look into however their past performance/record tells the truth....Stokes is a Realtor in the hands of the builders hence his drive to reduce codes and standards for their own benefit. Gossett is the same, hired his buddy to perform the city audit for double the he usual cost and then added some more.....Pathetic people with an agenda to line their own pockets....not for the residents but for themselves, I pray that they both lose tomorrow by a landslide.
ReplyDeleteHussey is a realtor. Fired by city of Dardenne.
DeleteI am reading all this on the site. I do not hear anything negative from Stokes or Gossett towards Hussey or Wright. Says alot about their character. If I could vote, I would vote for Stokes and Gossett. They at least didn't send out a false smear letter to citizens.
DeleteAn uninformed voter will vote for gossett and stokes. An informed person will not. The marshalites keep pointing to hussey being fired from dardenne prairie, fine. That didn't stop them from hiring administrative staff including the last two city administrators that were also terminated....the possey of stokes and gossett are nothingbut hypocrites that want the builders money rolling their direction. WAKE UP WENTZVILLE, TOMORROW IS A NEW DAY! (The insider)
ReplyDeleteI have only lived in Wentzville for 1 year and I like reading things to inform me of the political temperature of the city, but I will not decide my vote on anonymous comments. I see that the only person who used their name is the other party to the incident. I am glad that he presented his side of the story and admitted his involvement. So please, if you have something to say, provide your name. By staying anonymous it is too easy to hide your identity and say things without presenting facts. I think everyone should be informed when voting, but anonymous opinions do not help attain that goal.
ReplyDeleteIf you are looking for something positive to do this weekend you might consider the MISSION: Clean Stream on Saturday around 8:00AM. Go to http://www.wentzvillemo.org/mcs.aspx
ReplyDeletefor more info. This event is limited to 250 so be there early.
Thanks to everyone who voted for me in Ward Three. I have had a chance to rest up and catch up on my chores and now I am ready to work for all of you.
